TITLE: The Thrills and Chills of Building a High Tech Company

ABSTRACT:
The idea of building a successful high tech company around innovative
concepts is a common thought of many Computer Science students and faculty
members. Although we are well trained in the intellectual issues
associated with investigating that "great idea", we generally have little
exposure to the commercial and operations issues associated with
transforming a concept into a company.
The purpose of this presentation is to describe several of these issues
from the standpoint of the history of Dialogic Corporation, the market
leader in open software and hardware components for the automated call
processing industry. The presentation will describe the evolution of the
founding technology as well as the evolution of the organization and
other issues that we have been faced over the last 16 years including the
impact of our recent acquisition by Intel Corporation.
Dialogic did not evolve perfectly, but I believe that there are a number
of things that we did and did not do that have lead to our success and
might serve as a useful guideline for anyone contemplating entering the
great worlds of high tech startups, venture capital and roller coaster
highs and lows.
